What are bridges?

A bridge is a dental restoration that fills a gap in your smile where a permanent tooth used to be. Most bridges have a false tooth and two crowns. Dr. Ariyev bonds the crowns on top of the abutment teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. What are the types of dental bridges?

Traditional fixed bridge

Implant-supported bridge

An implant-supported bridge attaches to a dental implant – a small metal post that is inserted into an empty tooth socket. After placement, the implant integrates with your bone, providing a base for the bridge.

What does getting bridges involve?

At the first visit, Dr. Ariyev completes an oral exam and takes digital X-rays. Then, he administers a local anesthetic and prepares your teeth to receive the bridge. Dr. Ariyev removes a thin layer of enamel on the tops and sides of your abutment teeth and takes impressions with an iTero intraoral scanner.

He sends your impressions to a dental lab that creates a custom dental bridge.

Several weeks later, when the lab finishes your custom bridge, you return to Smile Studio of Great Neck. Dr. Ariyev lines up the bridge with the gap in your smile and carefully bonds it in place. Then, he checks your bite and provides care instructions.
